Information for International Graduates


INTERNATIONAL VETERINARIAN GRADUATE

A veterinarian who graduated from a non-accredited university (Canadian Veterinary Medical Association or the American Veterinary Medical Association accredited), in order to seek licensure in Alberta as a Veterinarian, the individual will have to enroll in the CVMA/NEB (or the AmVMA) exam sequence.

Once the individual has been accepted into the exam sequence, they would be eligible for Limited Licensure with the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association. This would allow them to work in an instructional capacity while under minimum direct or immediate supervision of a fully licensed veterinarian. Limited Licensure is available for up to 24 months.

After completing the initial two exams (BCSE and NAVLE), the individual would be eligible for Temporary Licensure with the ABVMA, while under minimum indirect supervision of a fully licensed veterinarian. Temporary Licensure is available for up to 24 months and is renewed on a 3 month basis.

After successfully completing the entire exam sequence, the individual would obtain a Certificate of Qualification from the CVMA, which would make them eligible for Active General License with the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association.
