Open a Practice
The Alberta Veterinary Medical Association (ABVMA) is the Professional Regulatory Organization responsible for the practice of Veterinary Medicine in the Province of Alberta, under authority of the Veterinary Profession Act. The ABVMA is responsible for the certification and inspection of veterinary practice entities (VPEs) in Alberta.
VPEs in Alberta can be owned by registered unrestricted individual veterinarian(s), or a corporation. In either structure, 51% of the VPE must be owned by registered unrestricted veterinarian(s). Any corporations that have veterinarian shareholders require a 'Permit to Practice for a Corporation' (see Ownership Structure).
Applications are required at least two months prior to the projected opening date.
