Permit to Practice
VPEs in Alberta can be owned by registered unrestricted individual veterinarian(s) or a corporation. If any of the owners of the VPE is a corporation, the corporation requires a Permit to Practice. The Veterinary Profession Act of Alberta specifies the conditions that must be met in order for a corporation to become a registered permit holder of a VPE in Alberta.
- Sole Proprietorship - one or more registered unrestricted veterinarians can own a VPE.
- Permit to Practice for a Corporation – any corporation participating in the ownership of a VPE (in whole or in part) must have a permit. A corporation within a corporation requires a separate permit.

Before you apply, gather the following information:
· Certificate of incorporation with the Government of Alberta Registrar of Corporations
· Copy of Shareholder Register that includes shareholder names and percentage of voting shares held by each.
